In 1967 Cardinal Spellman formed a Committee of Catholic Laity to contribute to mission activity on a personal level. This concept of a lay committee actually was similar to the original Propagation of the Faith Committee founded in France in the 19th century by Pauline Jaricot, who gathered together a group of friends and workers into "circles of ten", asking each person to pray daily for the missions and make a regular weekly sacrifice.
A group of some thirty men and women, most of whose business activities center in the metropolitan area of New York, have been meeting once a year for the purpose of raising funds on behalf of the Archbishop so that the Archdiocese may provide financial assistance for the missionary activity of the Catholic Church. These funds are used for the support of mission projects to help build up a local church, and to provide medical, educational and other basic necessities to millions of people throughout the world. They are directed to those most in need. (No funds are used for promotional costs.)
Since 1967 the Committee has contributed over $6,600,000.00 to the missions.
India
1. To purchase a C-Arm X-Ray machine used primarily for fluoroscopic inoperative imaging during surgery this is for a new hospital under construction In the Diocese of Palai in India $125,450.
2. For financial assistance to conduct a medical camp for 10,200 people. The aim is to bring health care and health issues to the poor in the Nalgonda Diocese, $8,438.
3. For Financial Assistance for the education of poor and disadvantaged tribal children in St. Theresa"s Mission in the Diocese of Eluru, India $2,727.
4. Seeking financial assistance for the education of 40 poor, marginalized and disadvantaged children in the Tribal Mission of St. Theresa Tribal Mission Parish, Narasapuram India $2,727. (for one year)
5. For the completion of a village Chapel in the Mission Parish of Attili, India $4,231.
6. To purchase furniture for the education of Our Lady of Fatima ITI college and Orphanage, Telangana, India, $1,425.
7. For financial assistance to handicapped and autistic children of Pullambadi. TamilNadu, India $1,470
8. For financial assistance to repair and renovate the Parish Church of St. Alphonse, Malkapur, India, $6,000.
1. Financial assistance for a new church in order to purchase Liturgical Vessels such as Chalices and Ciboriums, a tabernacle and bells, Tanzania, $4000.

2. Financial assistance to repair and refurbish the Chaplaincy Car at St. Bernard Teachers' College, Tanzania,$1,000.
3.Funds for solar lights to replace kerosene lamps for the Sisters of Good Council, Uganda. $4,028.Caribbean
1. For the formation of Catechists n the Diocese of Anse-a-Veau and Miragoane, Nippes, Haiti $2,000.
2. For Radio Evangelization in the Diocese of B$1,500.Barahona, Dominican Republic, $1,500.
