In 1916 Father Paolo Manna, a PIME missionary in Myanmar (Burma) realized the need for the spiritual dimension necessary to be a missionary and to encourage others to be involved in the missionary work of the church. It is a call to all Catholics to come to a better understanding of our baptismal responsibility for the Church’s missionary work.
Father Manna founded the Missionary Union…the need to develop a missionary spirit of prayer and generous sacrifice. The success of the efforts of the priests, religious, seminarians, pastoral leaders and those engaged in religious education must be developed and nurtured by a spirit of prayer and generous sacrifice.
